New exhibition in Budapest!

Once there was the Északi ... the story continues

Welcome to the website of the Hungarian Museum of Transport's temporary exhibition.  We wish to introduce our future home to you with our newest display: the new Museum of Transport is expected to open to the public on the former Northern Maintenance Depot (Északi) territory in 2026. The building is being designed by the world-famous Diller Scofidio + Renfro architect's office. Until the new Museum is finally constructed, we wish to present to our visitors what our new home will look like. We want to demonstrate the spirit and history of the industrial heritage area and the fascinating building classified as a heritage site and show you what it was like to work here and how life was treating people.

Access

The entrance of the Northern Maintenance Depot is accessible from the parking lot of the Opera's Eiffel Workshop. Unfortunately, due to lack of space, we cannot offer you parking on the spot, but the Northern Maintenance Depot is easily accessible by public transport. Thus, we kindly suggest you use public transport or any other sustainable transit mode if you can.

The exhibition can be accessed by public transport as follows:

  • By tram 28, 28A or 62, it is eight stops from Blaha Lujza Square to Eiffel Workshop and takes a mere 13 minutes.

  • From downtown, e.g. Deák Ferenc Square, you can take bus 9 and eleven stops to Eiffel Workshop. It takes 20 minutes.

  • You can also access the exhibition by tram 1, getting off at the Kőbányai út (Rd) / Könyves Kálmán körút (Ring Road) stop. Then, you take a 4 to 5-minute walk or get on trams 28, 28A or 62 and take one stop to the entrance.

Museum education

Museum educational programs linked to the temporary exhibition provide families with the opportunity to spend quality time here. We welcome you to our creative workshops, where we will contemplate the past, present, and future of the Northern Maintenance Workshop playfully and creatively.

We will examine and look at the exhibition, and the options of the Hungarian Museum of Transport presented within that, with our sense organs during the thematic programmes. We will collect, organize and arrange our earlier museum experiences, and peep into the designing process of the new museum. While exploring the Northern Maintenance Depot exhibition, we can articulate ideas and initiatives through playful games and exercises. Inquiries
